DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
Family Support Services, founded in 1958 in St. Charles County, provides quality recreational, respite and educational programs that improve the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities by strengthening their families. We are seeking a Director of Development to join our Management Team.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Development is a key member of the organization's leadership team. Working closely with the organization’s staff, Board, and volunteers, this individual is responsible for formulating, implementing, and directing the fundraising strategies for the organization.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Development Program
- Plans, directs and implements a comprehensive development program that generates individual, corporate, foundation and organizational donors at a variety of levels.
- Provides direction and works with volunteer committee members to manage and assist with all aspects of the organization’s special events.
- Leads a fund development program that includes annual/monthly giving, corporate & foundation support and special events.
- Creates and implements strategies and research to identify, prioritize, cultivate, solicit, recognize, and steward all donors and prospects.
- Builds and sustains relationships with current, new, and potential organizational and individual donors.
- Collaborates with staff to ensure that all publications, website, and communications include donor-focused content.
- Manages direct mail and the development of materials to solicit and cultivate donors and prospects.
- Collaborates with staff, board and volunteers to gather stories and statistics that demonstrate the results and value of programs funded.
Management
- Performs general management responsibilities, including planning, budgets, reports, and evaluation and oversight of gift tracking systems.
- Prepares annual development plan to corresponding budget outlining revenue and expenses; monitors progress against goals and produces monthly reports.
- Works as an effective and proactive team player.
- Works in direct coordination with the Executive Director to achieve desired outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years experience in fund development or commensurate experience.
- Effective leadership skills and a strong orientation to a team based work environment.
- Computer literacy and competency with electronic donor tracking systems
- Ability to lead multiple long and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines; ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work; ability to work unsupervised and make decisions and solve problems independently, effectively and creatively.
- Knowledge of and experience with the St. Charles community would be beneficial.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
